Network Cable What are Network Cables Used For?
A network cable is a unique type of cable that is used for several particular tasks. While most cables are used to connect peripherals to a larger device, such as a mouse or keyboard to a computer, network cables are used to connect two independent devices, in order to transfer information. A typical example of this would be two computers hooked up to each other, or a computer hooked up to a modem. Network cables are very common sights nowadays, with the advent of high speed internet, and here we will go over a little bit about how to recognize one of these cables, as well as what they are used for.
Network cables are useful in that they allow you to hook up multiple personal computers to each other, allowing them to share not only files and other information, but allowing them to share hardware such as printers, scanners, and so on as well. This means that having a network cable can permit you to operate multiple computers together in an efficient way. Today, many computers and other equipment are connected through wireless networks, although network cables are still used to connect the components that broadcast the network in the first place.
A network cable is the ideal way to get online, allowing you to get access to a huge number of helpful functions. Network cables allow you to stay in touch with old friends, meet new people, and much more. Network cables tend to be tan, gray, or blue in colour. Each end of the cable will be made from translucent plastic, with the internal wires fitted into copper connectors. These connectors look like small copper teeth, and are designed to fit against a similar set in the input port. Most network cables have a small tab on the end in order to keep the cable from slipping out, and this tab can be depressed in order to retrieve the cable.

Cat5e network cables run at speeds of 100 Mbps whilst the newer cat6 cables can obtain speeds of 1000 Mbps when used on gigabit networks. It’s a good idea to opt for a shielded cable when buying as these reduce crosstalk.
